Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Exams

ULTRASOUND GUIDED THERAPY

Ultrasound guided injections provide cutting edge precision in the treatment of acute or chronic pain and injuries. Ultrasound is an imaging technology that utilizes sound waves rather than ionizing radiation. It is now being used extensively in the United States to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal problems since it allows for real-time visualization of extra-articular structures such as tendons, ligaments, muscle, bone, peripheral nerves, arteries, and veins.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound is also used for aspiration of joints, cysts, and tissues. It is often more diagnostic than MRI due to the fact that real-time exams can be performed, it’s faster, it’s less expensive, and it’s easy to compare the opposite non-involved region of the body. It provides much more resolution than fluoroscopy for fine detail of structures. Ultrasound resolution is 2.5 times greater than MRI. And of course it’s safe. Ultrasound guidance may be used for a multitude of cutting edge procedures.
